Servant of Aurum
A son of Ausmond never backs down.
Ever since his father died in the war against siraclese monsters, sixteen-year-old Aster determined he would join the fight. To kill siraclese, all soldiers wield aurum, an enchanted metal that changes colors and grants special abilities. But as a wielder of purple aurum, the least coveted type, Aster is considered unnecessary to the siraclese-slaying campaign.
After his latest attempt to join the army culminates in public humiliation, Aster seeks help from Master Whittaker, a reclusive bladesmith who may be able to mold him into the type of warrior his kingdom needs. Whittaker agrees to apprentice him, but only to satisfy a debt he owes Aster’s father.
At first, Aster struggles through the apprenticeship, finding Whittaker ill-tempered and obsessed with crafting swords for reasons he refuses to share. But when Aster discovers that the secrets of Whittaker’s past have deadly consequences, both master and apprentice will have to overcome their differences and work together to save the kingdom from a force as bloodthirsty as the invading monsters.
Full of witty banter, found family dynamics, and thrilling monster battles, Servant of Aurum is a YA fantasy adventure that will appeal to fans of the Ranger’s Apprentice series and Sky’s End. You won’t want to miss this tale of friendship and unlikely heroes giving their all to stand against the dark.
“Not everyone has to have the same gifts to serve the kingdom. Perhaps your path is simply a little different from everyone else’s.”

About the Author
Jordan Janice once declared that she would never become a writer, but that was before she discovered that writing stories is nothing like completing essays for school. Since then, she has earned a bachelor’s degree in English with a creative writing concentration and submitted two manuscripts to the 2023 Aurora Contest, both of which became semifinalists. Jurassic Park was her first all-time favorite movie, which explains her love of thrilling speculative fiction and found family. When she’s not writing, you can find Jordan going on adventures with her family, scheming for her next piece of chocolate, or pet sitting. Learn more about her here.
